Baptism

  • Infant Baptisms: We encourage parents to baptize their children as soon as possible. Parents who are expecting should contact the parish office to obtain a baptism packet, schedule a baptism instruction class, and to schedule the baptism. Please call the parish office for an appointment: 912-681-6726.
  • Baptisms for Adult or children over 7yrs: Adults who wish to join the Catholic Church and have not been baptized “in the name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit” will prepare for the sacrament through participation in Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes and an equivalent that is age appropriate for children. RCIA meets weekly beginning in the fall with an anticipation of receiving sacraments the following Easter. Contact Helen Almeter at 912-681-6726 ext. 203 or via email at: halmeter@saintmatthewsparish.com.

Confirmation

Confirmation usually takes place during the 8th grade year in our religious education program and candidates should already have been enrolled and have good attendance at their religious education classes prior to and leading up to Confirmation as well as faithful Mass attendance. Special preparatory classes, a retreat, and an opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation are also a part of this formation. For more information, contact Helen Almeter at 912-681-6726 ext. 203 or via email at halmeter@saintmatthewsparish.com

Adults who need to receive the sacrament of Confirmation may be invited to prepare along with the RCIA program (which begins meeting in the fall and concludes at Easter) or according to the discernment of the pastor.

First Communion

First Communion usually takes place during the 2nd grade year in our religious education program and candidates should already have been enrolled and have good attendance at their religious education classes prior to and leading up to First Communion as well as faithful Mass attendance. Holy Orders

Those who are discerning a vocation to Consecrate Life or the Priesthood can contact the pastor by calling 912-681-6726 Ext 213 or by contacting the Diocesan Vocation Director Fr. Pablo Migone at (912) 201-4113 or the Diocese of Savannah Vocations website:  www.savannahpriest.com.

Matrimony

Engaged couples should contact the pastor four to six months before the intended date of the wedding. The wedding date should not be set until you have met with the pastor first because he will need to discuss marriage as a sacrament, values, the wedding ceremony, and the other steps for marriage preparation. He can be reached at 912-681-6726. Ext 213

Reconciliation/Penance

We encourage the faithful to make the sacrament of reconciliation a regular part of their faith life.  Parents should bring their children to reconciliation at least once a year, however, more frequently is recommended. It is within this sacrament that we encounter God’s healing love and mercy. Examination of Conscience pamphlets are available next to the confessional in the church.

The sacrament of reconciliation is offered on Wednesdays 5-5:30pm & Saturdays from 4-5 p.m.

Penance Services are offered during Advent and Lent.
